Gustavus Adolphus College first-year women’s golfer Kali Griggs (Burnsville, Minn. / Visitation) has been named Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week ending Oct. 1, 2006. Griggs fired rounds of 79-81-81 to finish at 241 and finish second individually and lead the Gusties to a second-place team finish at the Best Western Riverport Classic at Winona’s Cedar Valley Country Club.
Her total helped the Gusties defeat St. Thomas by 18 shots, marking the fourth time in five fall meetings Gustavus has topped St. Thomas. It marked the second top-five finish for Griggs in her first fall season at the collegiate level. She has posted the third-best fall stroke average in the conference at 82.0.
Gustavus will participate in the 2006 MIAC Women’s Golf Championships Oct. 7-9 at Bunker Hills G.C. in Coon Rapids. The Gusties will be looking for their first league championship in women’s golf.
