The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team sits third after Sunday’s first round of the Frank Wrigglesworth UWEC Collegiate at the Eau Claire Country Club. The Gusties (297) trail host UW-Eau Claire (296) by a stroke and day one leader Saint John’s (292) by five.
Jordan Hawkinson (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) is tied for sixth place after an opening round 73, while Mark Stuckey (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) is tied for tenth after a 74 and Eric Harris (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Erik Tone (Sr., Willmar, Minn.) are tied for 15th after firing matching 75s. Ricky Copeland (Fr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) posted the final Gustie score on the day, carding an 85 on the par-71, 6672-yard layout in Eau Claire, Wis. UWEC’s Mike Greer holds a one-shot lead over SJU’s Joe Schoolmeesters in the medalist race after firing a one-under-par 70 in round one.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Monday at Eau Claire Country Club.
