The Gustavus men’s soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-0 win over Concordia College in Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. Jeffrey Johnson led the Gusties with two goals, while Dan Suchy added one goal and one assist. Gustavus is now 5-0-1 on the season.
Junior midfielder Jeffrey Johnson (Tonka Bay, Minn.) gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead with a goal at 3:33 of the contest. Johnson headed in a throw-in from Dan Suchy (La Crosse, Wis.) past Concordia goalkeeper Mads Schmidt. Suchy extended the lead to 2-0 when he scored at the 9:10 mark with an assist from Mike Butterworth (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska). Gustavus took its 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Jeffrey Johnson picked up his second goal of the game and closed out the Gustavus scoring when he knocked in a corner kick from Tim Gendron (Jr., Burnsville) in the 74th minute.
Tyler Garry (Sr., Sioux Falls, So. Dak.) picked up the shutout for the Gusties. He lowered his season goals against average to 0.20 through six games.
Gustavus has not allowed a goal in five consecutive matches, a stretch of 450 minutes. The team has outscored its opponents 13-1 in its six matches this season.
