The Cobbers are now 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the MIAC.

Concordia got its best chance at scoring in the first half when Morgan Bain beat Jenna Iaizzo (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) to the ball and got a solid kick off, however it sailed wide of the net. The Cobbers controlled the pace of the game until the 25th minute when Iaizzo got an open kick but booted it just high of the net. Gustavus began to control the ball and had more scoring opportunities down the stretch, but the teams were scoreless after one half.

Concordia controlled most of the play in the second half and, in turn, had more scoring chances. With less than four minutes to play in regulation, the Cobbers had a great opportunity in front of the net but the shot was directly into Julie Mahre’s (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) hands. Mahre was able to save five shots for the Gusties in the second half.

In the first overtime, Concordia managed five shots at the Gustavus net, while holding the Gusties without a shot. In the second overtime, Gustavus controlled the play and had a big opportunity with 3:25 to play. Rebecca Hagen (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) kicked a hard shot onto the Cobber net, but Britt Reiersgord successfully jumped to deflect the ball away. The game ended without either team scoring, 0-0.

Concordia outshot Gustavus 26-10 and led in corner kicks 6-2. Mahre stopped all 11 shots she faced, while Reiersgord stopped four.

The Gusties are 21-8-4 all-time against the Cobbers. However, Gustavus has not defeated Concordia since 2002.

The Gusties host St. Kate’s on Wednesday at 4:00pm in St. Peter.
