Hokenson Captures Second, Bittman Third at MIAC Multi-Events Track Championships

Gustavus Adolphus junior Jered Hokenson (Watertown, Minn.) and senior Blythe Bittman (Fairmont, Minn.) maintained their first day positions during day two of the decathlon and heptathlon and finished second and third, respectively. Hokenson kept second place by only nine points over Jeff Doll of Saint John’s, while Bittman missed second place by only 12 points. Matt Mogensen of Saint John’s (5956 points) won the decathlon title, while Carleton’s Kestrel Schwaiger won the heptathlon (4167 points).

In the decathlon, Hokenson accumulated 5689 points after finishing sixth in the discus throw (92′ 4″, 428 8 points), seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (:17.58, 565 points) and javelin throw (121′ 5″, 399 points) and eighth in the pole vault (11′ 11 3/4″, 522 points). Hokenson saved his best day-two finish for last, finishing second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:38.77 (688 points). On day one, Hokenson picked up 776 points with his winning effort of 6 feet, 5 1/2 inches in the high jump, while also finishing fifth in the 400-meter dash (:54.09; 636 points) and long jump (19′ 2 3/4″, 556 points), sixth in the 100-meter dash (:12.07, 637 points) and seventh in the shot put (32′ 7 1/2″, 482 points).

In the heptathlon, Bittman finished first in the 800-meter run (2:27.49, 725 points) and second in the javelin throw (99′ 10″, 485 points) but was only able to post a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 5 inches. On day one, Bittman captured the 200-meter dash with a MIAC Heptathlon-record time of 26.43 seconds, earning 760 points in the process. She also posted the second-best mark in the shot put (31′ 9 1/4″, 509 points) and finished sixth in both the high jump (4′ 9 3/4″, 588 points) and 100-meter hurdles (:17.25, 569 points).
