Women’s Soccer Suffers Double Overtime Loss To Saint Mary’s 1-0

The Gustavus women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Saint Mary’s under the lights in Winona, Minn. on Wednesday night. Saint Mary’s forward Sloane Kuramoto netted the game-winning goal off an assist from Amy Sibik in the 105th minute of the match.

The Gustavus women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Saint Mary’s under the lights in Winona, Minn. on Wednesday night.  Saint Mary’s forward Sloane Kuramoto netted the game-winning goal off an assist from Amy Sibik in the 105th minute of the match.  With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 2-2 in the MIAC and 5-5 overall, while Gustavus falls to 0-4 in the MIAC and 4-5 overall.

The two squads played an evenly matched game, as they each had three shots in the first half.  Saint Mary’s had the shots advantage in the second half (4-2) and overtime periods (2-1), while Gustavus held the corner kick advantage 8-to-5 in the match.

Saint Mary’s Cassie Hulett was the winning goalkeeper, making four saves on her way to the shut-out victory.  Chelsea Bayer suffered the loss in nets for the Gusties, giving up the lone goal and making five saves.

Gustavus’s Ashley Anderson and Nicole Kwapick led the team with two shots in the contest, while Amanda Cartony and Leah Brossoit each had one.

The Gustavus women’s soccer team will begin a five-game home stand starting with a MIAC contest against St. Olaf on Saturday at 1:00pm in St. Peter, Minn.
