Women’s Tennis Concludes Season With 5-0 Loss To Williams In NCAA Quarterfinals

The Gustavus women’s tennis team had its season come to a close with a 5-0 loss to number two seed Williams in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship on Tuesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Gusties were swept in doubles, before suffering losses at #2 and #3 singles.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team had its season come to a close with a 5-0 loss to number two seed Williams in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship on Tuesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.  The Gusties were swept in doubles, before suffering losses at #2 and #3 singles.  The Gusties finish the season with an overall record of 33-11.  Williams will move on to play against the University of Chicago in the NCAA Semifinals on Wednesday, May 26.

Williams surged in the later half of doubles, getting the sweep and taking a 3-0 advantage over Gustavus heading into the singles competition.  Grace Baljon and Taylor French defeated Sierra Krebsbach and Sam Frank 8-4 at #1 doubles, Kristin Alotta and Nikki Reich defeated Megan Gaard and Marianne Barau 8-2 at #2 doubles, and Lucy Marchese and Caroline Capute defeated Ali O’Neal and Maria Bryan 8-5 at #3 doubles.

The Ephs won the match by decision after getting wins by way of Alotta over Frank 6-0, 6-2 at #2 singles, and Reich over Barau 6-1, 7 (7-0)-6 at #3 singles.  The Gusties had won the first set at #1 and #4 singles, as Williams won the first set at #5 and #6 when play was called.
