Sam Broderius won the shot put and took second in the discus at the Meet of the UnSaintly

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team competed in its final meet of the regular season at the Meet of the UnSaintly hosted by Hamline on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.  Top Gustavus finishers at the meet included Janey Helland and Sam Broderius.  Helland, winner the MIAC Heptathlon on Friday in Northfield, Minn., took first place in the long jump (5.36m), while Broderius won the shot put (12.71m) and took second in the discus (43.25m).

Sarah Baker had a good day in the jumps, finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 5.22 meters, and third in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters.

In the track events, top finishers included Vanessa Jones, Beth Hauer, Megan Lundgren, Danielle Burgmeier, and Abby Karl.  Jones was the only other Gustie to place in the top three at the meet, finishing third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:23.63.  Hauer finished fourth in the 5000-meter run (18:29.02), Burgmeier took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.21), and Lundgren placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:16.87).  Abby Karl finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.15).

The 4×400-meter relay team consisting of Burgmeier, Karl, Amanda Iverson, and Lundgren placed fourth with a time of 3:58.19.

Janey Helland won the long jump with a mark of 5.36 meters

In the field events, Lauren Rothschiller placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters, and Megan Endresen finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.46 meters.

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team will compete at the 2010 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, in Winona, Minn.
