Gustavus Adolphus women’s outdoor track and field athlete Janey Helland scored a total of 4508 points to win the MIAC Heptathlon hosted by Carleton on Friday in Northfield, Minn.  Teammate Kaelene Lundstrum, who led after day one, took second with 4457 points.  Laura Secor finished eighth with 3560 points, while Becca Bryson placed tenth with 3455 points.

Helland gained a total of 1850 points in day two, surpassing Lundtrum who scored 1657 points on the day.  In day two, Helland took first place in the long jump with a leap of 17’ 7”, second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.86, and eighth in the javelin with a throw of 88’ 2”.  Lundstrum placed fourth in the long jump (16’ 0.25”), fifth in the javelin (90’ 11”), and sixth in the 800-meter run (2:29.72). 

Laura Secor moved up six spots from day one to take eighth place, scoring a total of 1640 points on the day.   Secor took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.05, fourth in the javelin (93’ 2”), and 13th in the long jump (14’ 4.50”).  Bryson scored 1310 points in day two by finishing second in the javelin (99’ 9”), seventh in the long jump (15’ 10.25), and 14th in the 800-meter run (3:05.93). 

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team will compete at the 2010 MIAC Championships hosted by Saint Mary’s on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, in Winona, Minn.
