The Gustavus men’s cross country team closed out its 2005 season Saturday with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Wartburg College. The Gusties accumulated 352 points at the meet, won by Nebraska Wesleyan. The Prairie Wolves scored 42 points to claim the title and advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

The Gusties were led by captain Alex Zupan (Jr., Monona, Wis.) who posted a 20th place finish with a time of 26:19.70. Seniors Dan Westlund (Northfield, Minn.) and Andy Rishavy (Alexandria, Minn.) followed Zupan across the line. Westlund finished 77th with a time of 27:49.40, while Rishavy finished 84th with a 28:01.45 clocking. Freshman Dan Foley (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished 87th, just three seconds behind Rishavy.

Junior Collin Meierbachtol (Northfield, Minn.) and freshmen John Leaf (Center City, Minn.) and Alex Prieve (Faribault, Minn.) rounded out the Gustie contingent. Meierbachtol crossed the line in 92nd place (28:15.50), followed by Leaf (105th, 28:49.80) and Prieve (110th, 29:10.50).
