Women’s Hockey Defeats Augsburg 8-0, Wins Sixth Consecutive MIAC Title

The Gustavus women’s hockey team scored four first period goals and never looked back on its way to a convincing 8-0 win over Augsburg at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Gusties claimed their sixth consecutive league title and earned the #1 seed in the MIAC Playoff Tournament, which begins next Thursday.

Gustavus forwards Allie Schwab and Mollie Carroll scored two goals each to lead the Gusties and Danielle Justice and Emily Klatt combined to post the second consecutive shutout for Gustavus.  Melissa Mackley scored one goal and registered one assist and Kirstin Peterson picked up three assists to add to the Gustie attack.  The eight goals scored by Gustavus tied the most goals scored by Mike Carroll’s squad in a game this season.

Gustavus will now face the winner of the #4 seed vs. #5 seed play-in game in a semifinal game next Thursday at 7:05 pm at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
