The Gustavus women’s basketball team saw its six-game conference win streak come to an end with a 62-57 loss to Concordia in Moorhead on Saturday.  A Kelsey Florian layup with 4:13 left to play gave the Gusties a 54-52 lead, but the Cobbers outscored Gustavus 10-3 in the final four minutes of the game to claim the victory and force a three-way tie for first place between Gustavus, Concordia, Macalester.

The game was very close throughout and particularly tight down the stretch as neither team had a lead bigger than five points in the final ten minutes of play.  A layup by Molly Mathiowetz with 1:30 left in regulation play tied the score at 56-56, however the Cobbers outscored the Gusties 6-1 the rest of the way to claim the win and push their home win streak to eight straight games.

With Concordia and Macalester winning and Gustavus losing, there is now a three-way tie for first place between the Cobbers, Scots, and Gusties as all have 11-2 league records.  St. Ben’s is one game back at 10-3.

Two Gustavus players scored in double figures in the game including Molly Mathiowetz with 17 and Bri Radtke with 13.

The Gusties will return home for two league games this week as Saint Mary’s will venture to St. Peter on Wednesday, while Saint Catherine will come to town on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
