The Gustavus women’s soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of #24 ranked St. Thomas on Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter, MN. The Gusties went into halftime tied 1-1 after Gustie forward Kristen Moen scored an unassisted goal in the 41st minute. The tie did not last long as the Tommie attackers came out firing in the second half. Forward Regina Horak scored the go ahead goal in the 52nd minute and midfielder Erin Sprangers closed the door with a header goal in the 89th minute, giving St. Thomas the 3-1 victory.
St. Thomas had the advantage in both shots (15-7) and corner kicks (6-1), while six different Tommie players registered 11 shots on goal. Tommie forward Kirsten Moran seemed to be all over the field as she assisted on both second half goals to Horak and Sprangers. Gustavus goalkeeper Jessica Richert suffered the loss giving up 3 goals and making 8 saves.
Gustavus scoring chances were few and far between as the Gusties had only three shots on goal. The Gusties were lead by forward Kristen Moen as she scored her second goal of the season while having two shots on goal. Tommie goalkeeper Alie Byron was hardly challenged as she gave up one goal while making just two saves. St. Thomas goes to 12-2-1 overall with a MIAC record of 7-0-1 as they carry an 11 game unbeaten streak into the last three games of the season. Gustavus drops to 6-6-3 overall and 2-5-1 in the MIAC.
Gustavus will play Bethel University on Saturday, October 24th in St. Peter, MN.
