Gustavus sophomore Janna Castellano tied for 9th place in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships taking place at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Castellano’s vault of 11-10 1/2 breaks her own school record of 11-8 that she set two weeks ago at the MIAC Championships. The ninth place finish is the best finish in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships in Gustavus women’s track and field history. Stephanie Barnes of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the title with a vault of 12-2 1/2.
Gustavus 10,000 meter runners Nichole Petersen and Hailey Harren will compete this evening (Thursday, May 26) at 7:50 pm. Kourtney Cox will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday at 5:20 pm.
The national meet, which began today, runs through Saturday afternoon.
