COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Gustavus baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday in the MIAC playoff championship game, losing 4-0 to Bethel. The Gusties finish the season 28-14 overall, an identical record to last season and tying the second most wins in a season in program history.

Bethel got off to a quick start with three runs in the first inning. A walk, single, and three-run homer gave the Royals the early lead and they added one more in the second after a walk, stolen base, and RBI single.

Lane Glaser (Sr., Hutchinson) came in relief with two outs in the second and stranded two runners on base. Glaser was fantastic in relief, finishing out the game for 6.1 innings of hitless pitching. Glaser struck out five batters and allowed only three base runners on two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

The Gusties stranded eight runners in the game and were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Bryce Novak (Sr., Cleveland) and Drake Siens (Jr., Rogers) both went 2-for-4 to pace the offense. Novak, who plans on playing another season, brought his career hit total to 197, which ranks fourth in program history. He also owns a .433 career batting average, ranking second in program history.

Jack Hanson (Sr., Minnetonka) had four at-bats in the game, bringing his career total to 556 and passing Aaron Madsen’s (2003-06) program record of 554 at-bats. Hanson finished his career with 215 hits (2nd/program history), 144 runs (1st/program), 37 doubles (7th/program), eight triples (6th/program), 29 home runs (3rd/program), and 137 RBIs (3rd/program).
