Women’s Tennis Falls to Carleton in MIAC Playoff Championship Posted on April 29th, 2023 by

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 5-2 loss to Carleton in the MIAC playoff championship. The Gusties finish the season 17-13 overall while the Knights improve to 20-0 and advance to the NCAA Championships.

After being swept in doubles last week against the Knights, the Gusties claimed one of three doubles in the championship match. The No. 1 team of Molly Austin (Fy., Arden Hills) and Allison Szalay (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa) won 8-6 and the Gusties trailed 2-1 after doubles.

Alli Laux (Jr., Onalaska, Wis.) tied the match 2-2 with the first singles victory at No. 4, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, but Carleton claimed the match with straight set victories at Nos. 1, 2, and 6.

“We always talk about playing to inspire each other and to see them battle and cheer each other on from their courts was exactly what I always hoped for as a coach,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said. “They truly care about each other and played for each other. Carleton proved to be the better team today and we wish them luck.”
