MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Both the Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams sit in second place after Wednesday night’s opening session of the MIAC Championships at the University of Minnesota Jean Freeman Aquatic Center. The Gustie men have 106 points and are 39 behind the leader Saint John’s, while the women have 70 points and are four behind St. Kate’s.
The women’s 200 medley relay team of Marit Isaacson (So., Saint Paul), Lindsay Sundby (Fy., Cannon Falls), Ellen Hofstede (Sr., Saint Paul), and Lucy Peterson (Jr., Saint Paul) started the night with a first place finish, touching the wall in 1:44.12. The men’s 200 medley relay team followed suit as Matt Strom (Jr., Rochester), Taylor Vander Jeugdt (Sr., Gurnee, Ill.), Peyton Richardson (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill.), and Andrew Becker (Sr., Northfield) won with a school record time of 1:30.40.
The men’s 800 free relay also claimed a conference title as Richardson, Dane Hudson (Sr., Eden Prairie), Erik Small (Sr., Hudson, Wis.), and Strom touched in 6:44.87.
Thursday’s prelim session begins at 10:30 a.m. with finals starting at 6:30 p.m.
