SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team Saturday lost 4-0 to league leading Saint John’s, suffering the series sweep. The Gusties fall to 2-11-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the MIAC, while the Johnnies improve to 8-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the league.

Saturday’s game started the same as Friday’s without a goal in the first period, but once again the Johnnies scored a short handed goal in the second period at the 13:07 mark. Four minutes later, Saint John’s added another goal and led 2-0 after 40 minutes.

The visitors then scored goals at the 3:58 and 14:55 marks of the third for the decisive win. Saint John’s outshot the Gusties 31-12 as Jackson Hjelle (Jr., Delano) made 27 saves. A bright spot for the Gusties was their penalty kill as they denied all seven Johnnie power plays. The Gusties went 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

Gustavus hosts its final two non-conference games of the season next weekend, facing off against UW-Superior on Friday night followed by UW-River Falls on Saturday night.
