SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team held a 3-1 lead midway through the second period Friday night against Lawrence, but the visitors came back with five unanswered goals for a 6-3 decision at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Gusties drop to 0-8-2 overall while the Vikings improve to 2-8-0.

Jack Suchy (So., Medina) scored the first goal of the game with 2:29 remaining in the first period on an assist from Thomas Patterer (Jr., Klagenfurt, Austria) and the Gusties maintained a 1-0 lead through the first intermission. Dylan Gast (Sr., Dellwood) scored his first goal of the season just 1:26 into the second with the help of Nate Stone (Fy., Edina) and Joey Gimberlin (So., Mendota Heights) for the two-goal lead before the Vikings got on the board three minutes later. George Hansen (Sr., Patchogue, N.Y.) regained a two-goal lead for Gustavus at the 7:23 mark, helped by Brandon Sloth (Fy., Anoka) and Wilmer Svensson (Fy., Stockholm, Sweden), but the visitors had another answer with a power play goal two minutes later, making the score 3-2. Zach Lodes completed the hat trick for Lawrence with just 10 second left in the second on a bouncing puck goal and the score was knotted at 3-3 at the second break.

Lawrence scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 2:27 mark of the third and added two insurance goals in the final seven minutes for the decisive win.

The Gusties outshot the Vikings 28-20 as Zach Dosan (Fy., Bloomington) made 14 saves in goal for the home team. The Gusties continued to struggle on the power play, going 0-for-3, while the Vikings went 1-for-2.

Gustavus continues non-conference play at home Saturday night against Concordia-Wisconsin.
