Gusties Make Quick Work of Vikings, 3-0 Posted on September 27th, 2022 by

MANKATO, Minn. — The Gustavus volleyball team bounced back from a two-match losing streak for a convincing 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent Bethany Lutheran.

Gustavus came out swinging in the team’s non-conference showdown, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead, which the Gusties eventually built to a 25-8 win in the opening set. It was the Vikings who got out to the quick start in the second set, taking a 5-1 lead over the Gusties. It wouldn’t be enough, though, as Gustavus battled back to defeat the Vikings 25-14 in set two. The Gusties completed the sweep over the Vikings with a 25-15 victory in set No. 3.

Marlee Turn (Jr., Kennedy) led a balanced Gustie offensive attack, hammering out 15 kills and hitting .448, while Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.) delivered eight kills and Madi Kes (Jr., Jordan) finished with six of her own.

Kasie Tweet (Jr., Adrian) dished out 34 of the team’s 38 assists and Turn added a team leading 13 digs for her seventh double-double, while Maren Sundberg (Fy., Eagan) collected 12 digs.

After 15-straight away matches, the No. 20 Gusties host their first home match, stepping back into conference play to take on Carleton at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Gusties host the Gustavus Triangular the following day, inviting Bethel and University of Dubuque to Saint Peter for a series of three matches.
