HASTINGS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in a tie for fifth place out of 18 teams after Saturday’s first round of the Division III Classic at Emerald Greens. The Gusties shot a 320 (+28) and are 14 strokes behind the leader Bethel.
Laurel Ward (Sr., Bozeman, Mont.) leads the Gusties top five with a first round score of three-over 76. Ward is tied for 13th out of 109 golfers. Annika Reierson (Jr., Delano) is tied for 21st with a first round total of 78. Emily Kolb (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot an 82 and is tied for 35th. Kristin Martens (Sr., Sartell) is tied for 51st at 84 and Zada Olig (Sr., Wayzata) is tied for 59th at 85.
“Good battle today,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Nice to see some better scores on day one. We made some really good birdies on some tough holes. Looking for that momentum to carry onto tomorrow. Great round by Laurel. Annika also put together a solid day. Excited to get back out there early in the morning.”
The second round begins Sunday morning at Emerald Greens.
