MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Gustavus volleyball team was nothing if not consistent Friday evening during the opening day of the Augsburg Invitational.
The Gusties opened play with a 3-0 win over Pacific Lutheran and followed that up with yet another 3-0 victory over UW-La Crosse.
The Gusties entered their match against Pacific Lutheran — a match of two undefeated teams — knowing only one team could prevail as undefeated. The Gusties delivered in convincing fashion, posting wins of 25-18, 25-19, and a convincing score of 25-10 in the third set.
And the Gusties picked up right where they left off, rolling to wins of 25-13, 25-18, and 26-24 over the Eagles.
Marlee Turn (Jr., Kennedy) paced a balanced Gustie attack against the Lutes, hitting a whopping .500 and contributing 12 kills, just three better than Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.). Kasie Tweet (Jr., Adrian) dished out a team-leading 21 assists and Maren Sundberg (Fy., Eagan) finished with a team-best 16 digs.
Turn led the way for the Gusties in their 3-0 sweep of UW-La Crosse, recording a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs, while Tweet delivered 26 assists.
The Gusties (5-0 overall) close out the two-day Augsburg Invitational on Saturday, squaring off against UM-Morris (9:30 a.m.) and 2021 National Champion UW-Eau Claire (2:30 p.m.).
