SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus baseball team continued to dominate with a 14-1 game one win and a 17-3 game two win over Augsburg at home on Wednesday afternoon. With the wins, the Gusties improve to 18-4 overall and 7-1 in the MIAC.

The Gusties set the tone early on with MIAC leader Jack Hanson (Sr., Minnetonka) hitting a home run to left field for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, Luke Johnson (Jr., Paynesville) tacked on a pair of RBI off a well hit single followed by a Bryce Novak (Jr., Cleveland) double to plate two more. Gavin Baker (Jr., Lakeville) and Ethan Mocchi (Sr., Champlin) each added on a run for a 6-0 edge after two.

Augsburg kept the Gusties silent in the third before answering back with a run of their own.

In the top of the fourth, Mocchi found the gap in left center with a double to score Baker before a Drake Siens (So., Rogers) single extended the lead to 8-1.

The Auggie pitching staff shut the Gusties down in the fifth, before an explosive five-run sixth inning highlighted by a Dalton Thelen (Sr., Cold Spring) two-run standup triple for the 14-1 victory

Christian Johnson (Sr., Buffalo) earned the win after pitching five innings, striking out six batters, and allowing two hits and one run.

Hanson continued to answer for the Gusties in the first inning, hitting the ball deep into centerfield to score Novak. Baker kept the Gusties hot with a hit up the middle to bring in the second run.

In the bottom of the second Hanson tacked on his second RBI single of the game before Baker smashed the ball into left field over the fence to plate three more runs.

Newcomer Lane Glaser (Jr., Hutchinson) handled high pressure situations in the low temps. With one out and Auggie runners on first and third he tallied back-to-back strikeouts before heading into the bottom of the third to keep Augsburg scoreless.

Johnson led off the third frame with a home run into right field followed by Baker finding the pocket in right field for an RBI single.

Mocchi got a piece of the home run scoring with his sixth of the season to plate three more runs. Logan Bjorkman (Jr., Lindstrom) tacked on a final RBI single for the 14-0 lead after three complete innings.

The Gusties plated two more runs in the fourth before Augsburg fired back with three runs.

Both squads pulled out all of the defensive stops but Gustavus had the offensive advantage with one more final run in the 17-3 final. 26 different Gusties saw playing time in the second game. Glaser earned the win on the rubber with five strikeouts in three innings while allowing one hit and zero runs.

Gustavus will next host Northwestern on April 18th at 2:30.
