MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After going goal-for-goal against the No. 4 nationally ranked Auggies, the Gustavus men’s hockey team fell in overtime 4-3 in the MIAC Championship Quarterfinals. With the loss, the Gusties end the 2021-22 season 6-16-4 overall.
Augsburg got out to an early lead with a power-play goal just two and a half minutes into the first period.
After gaining some momentum in the second period, Connor Clemons (Sr., Savage) got the Gusties on the board with assists credited to Dylan Gast (Sr., Dellwood) and Mason Etter (Sr., Grafton Wis.) to reset the score. Two minutes later, Augsburg regained the lead 2-1.
Looking to respond at the 12:14 mark, Kylar Fenton (Fy., Grafton, Wis.) connected on a pass to Toby Sengvongxay (Sr., Luverne) who brought the score to 2-2 at the second intermission.
Seven and a half minutes into the third period, Nick Klishko (Sr., San Diego) and Clemons went on a passing sequence to Patrick Gazich (Sr., Minnetonka) who crashed the net for a 3-2 lead.
The Auggies scored a goal late into the third to force a 5 on 5 overtime.
With 7:35 left in the first OT, the Auggies scored on the power-play to advance to the MIAC Championship Semifinals.
Rookie Grant Boldt (Fy., Frazee) made 38 saves to the Auggie net-minder’s 23.
