Women’s Hockey Drops First MIAC Game 2-1 in OT at Hamline Posted on February 11th, 2022 by

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – In a matchup of the MIAC’s two point leading teams, Gustavus women’s hockey dropped its first conference game of the season 2-1 in overtime at Hamline. The Gusties drop to 16-3-2 overall and 10-1-2 in the MIAC, while the Pipers improve to 12-7 overall and 10-3 in the league.

Eleven minutes into the first period, Hamline took a 1-0 lead and held that advantage into the first intermission despite being outshot 13-8. Eleven minutes into the second period, Tina Press (Sr., Cottage Grove) scored her 13th goal of the season on a power play with the help of Kayla Vrieze (Sr., Eagan) and Hailey Holland (Jr., Aberdeen, S.D.). The Gusties again outshot the Pipers in the second 20-9.

Neither team found the back of the net in the third with the Gusties winning the shot count 9-3, but Hamline was able to net the game-winner 2:10 into the three-on-three overtime for victory. The Gusties nearly doubled the Pipers in shots 43-22, but went 1-for-7 on the power play. Hamline was 0-for-3 on the skater advantage.

Katie McCoy (Jr., Grafton, Wis.) suffered the loss in goal after making 20 saves.

The Gusties and Pipers conclude the series at 2 p.m. Saturday in Saint Peter.
