Men’s Hockey Loses 2-1 to No. 3 Augsburg

Despite a tough battle against the No. 3 Auggies the Gustavus men’s hockey team fell 2-1 on Friday night and drops to 5-11-2 and 0-6-1 in the MIAC.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Despite a tough battle against the No. 3 Auggies, the Gustavus men’s hockey team fell 2-1 on Friday night and drops to 5-11-2 and 0-6-1 in the MIAC.

The Auggies found the back of the net a minute and a half into play for a 1-0 lead. The Gusties couldn’t get much going but was able to kill off four penalties before heading into the second.

Gustavus had an energy surge going into the second period and at the 2:27 mark, Brandon McNamara (Fy., Andover) scored an equalizer with assists credited to Nick Mohs-Messerli (Fy., Orono) and Nick Klishko (Sr., San Diego). The Gusties added on pressure, catching up to shots 10-11 to the Auggies before closing out on the second frame 1-1.

Three minutes into the third period, Augsburg scored the game winner on a power play. Gustavus had close opportunities to even the score in the final minutes of play but couldn’t get past the Auggie net-minder.

Justin Damon (Jr., St. Michael) suffered the loss making 36 saves.

The Gusties will host a rematch on Saturday night with a 7:00 puck drop.
