SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team played its final non-conference game of the season when they traveled to UW-Superior on Saturday night. The Gusties suffered a 3-1 loss and move to 3-8-1 overall and remain 0-3-1 in the MIAC.

Despite having two power play opportunities in the first period, the Gusties weren’t able to convert on any scoring plays. At the 15:43 mark, the Yellowjackets found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Gustavus killed off a penalty in the final minutes of the first period. The Gusties had an edge on shots 21-17 and 14-9 on net.

Gustavus continued to kill off four more penalties into the middle frame while tying UW-Superior on shots 10-10.

With four minutes left in the second, the Yellowjackets tacked on an insurance goal.

A minute and a half into the third period, UW-Superior added their third and final goal. At the 16:42 mark, Connor Clemons (Sr., Savage) connected on a pass to Brandon McNamara (Fy., Andover) for a late Gustie consolation goal on the power play.

The Gusties totaled 31 shots to UW-Superior’s 33. Grant Boldt (Fy., Frazee) was dealt the loss, making 30 saves while allowing 3 goals.
