WHEELING, W.V. – Gustavus men’s golfer Jacob Pederson (Jr., Minnetonka) fired a four-over 74 on day one of the NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday. Pedersen is five strokes off the lead and is currently tied for 37th out of 191 golfers.
In the opening round at Palmer Course at Oglebay, Pedersen started his day with a bogey on the par four first hole, but rebounded with a birdie on the par five second. He pared the next four holes before a double bogey on seven followed by consecutive bogies on eight and nine to score a 39 (+4) at the turn.
Pedersen had a much better back nine with a birdie on 10 followed by five straight pars. He bogeyed 16 and finished with two pars for a 74.
“I got off to a little shaky start, thankfully the course was playing really tough, so I didn’t lose too many shots to the field,” Pedersen said. “I lost a couple on 7-9, but regrouped to bring it in for a decent score. I think I found it a little on the range after the round, so I’m looking forward to another chance tomorrow.”
Pedersen will compete in round two Wednesday and if he makes the cut, will then play the third and fourth round on Thursday and Friday.
