Gymnastics Wins at UW-Eau Claire with a Season High 183.725 Posted on March 18th, 2021 by

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team was back in action when they competed against UW-Eau Claire on Thursday evening.

Gustavus took a win over the Blugolds with a 183.725-181.325 final score.

“It was an all around team effort, from start to finish,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “They went in relaxed, trusting themselves and their preparation and kept their nerves under control. It was such a great feeling to come together as a group and compete for each other.”

RESULTS

The Gusties had a hot start on bars with Annie Corbett (So., Brookfield, Wis.) finishing in first with a 9.375 score followed by Abby Willis (Fy., San Bernardino, Calif.) with a 9.125 and Sophia Redding (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) rounded out the Gustie lead with a 9.050. Corbett also finished first on vault with a 9.500 to complete the first two rotations.

“Individually Annie Corbett was on fire,” said DeGrood. “She placed top 5 in all events, winning two and the the all-around with all season high scores. The entire beam line up was so fun, it kept building with each routine. To improve your team score by 3 points on one event is pretty remarkable.”

Gustavus competed in floor for their third rotation with Corbett finishing third with a 9.450 score. Kendra Smaby (Fy., Palo Alto, Calif.) closed things out for the Gusties with a 9.275 second place finish in beam followed by Emma Esteb (So., Woodbury) with a 9.200 score.

“We had season high scores on all 4 events, and bested our previous two meets by 6 points. Tonight we celebrated. We did what we set out today. We did it for the shakes. And we got the win. I hope they never forget this feeling.”

As a team the Gusties finished 46.450 on vault, 45.050 on bars, 45.500 on beam, and 46.725 on floor. The Gusties will finish their 2021 season at Winona on April 1st.

How exciting to read the results of the meet. It sounds like a fantastic job was done by all the women. I loved that you said they were relaxed and confident.
It makes an ‘old’ former Gustie gymnast proud and sad that this year I’m home and can’t see them in person.
    GO GUSTIES🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛
