BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Gustavus track & field student-athletes Taylor Rooney (Sr., Andover), Madi Kes (Fy., Jordan), and Birgen Nelson (So., Edina) have been named MIAC Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances last Friday at the St. Thomas dual meet.
Rooney placed first in both of his events this past Friday at St. Thomas. The senior won the 60 hurdles in 7.90 and the 200 meters in 22.42. He continues to rank first in NCAA Division III in the 60 hurdles and now ranks first in the MIAC and 12th in the country in the 200-meter.
Kes won both the triple jump and long jump on Friday in Gustavus’ meet at St. Thomas. The first-year’s triple jump of 11.69 meters ranks first in the MIAC, third in NCAA Division III, and set a school record. Kes’ mark of 5.10 meters in the long jump ranks fourth in the conference.
Nelson set two Gustavus program records on Friday in a dual against St. Thomas. Nelson won the 60 hurdles with a school-record time of 8.76, which ranks first in NCAA Division III this season. The sophomore’s winning time of 25.51 in the 200-meter also set a school record, while ranking first in the MIAC and second in Division III. Nelson placed second in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:10.06 as well, which ranks third in the MIAC.
