Saint John’s was able to gain an early lead scoring at the eight minute mark to get things going. The Johnnies would strike again just over three minutes later to extend their lead to two. Despite the Gusties outshooting the home team 10-8 in the first period, the Johnnies would tack on two more goals in a 21-second span to take a 4-0 edge after 20 minutes.

Just over eight minutes into the second period, Gustavus was able to get on the board when Caleb Anderson (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) was able to find the back of the net with an assist going to Nick Klishko (Jr., San Diego, Calif). The Johnnies fired back just 12 seconds later to retake their four goal advantage. Late in the second, Tyler Ebner (So., La Crosse, Wis.) made the most of a power play opportunity with a goal assisted by  Tyler Rock (Jr., Savage). Saint John’s was able to answer back with a power play goal of their own with just one second remaining in the second frame to take a 6-2 lead into the third.

Despite applying pressure and outshooting the Johnnies 18-4 in the third, the Gusties could not break past Saint John’s net minder and would settle for the 6-2 loss.

Robbie Goor (Jr., Anoka) suffered the loss in the contest making 11 saves.

The Gusties will close out regular season play next week when they host Bethel Friday for a 7:05 contest.
