NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team suffered its fifth straight setback Saturday, losing 84-67 at St. Olaf. The Gusties are now 8-14 overall and 8-9 in the MIAC, while the Oles are 10-11 overall and 7-9 in the league.
St. Olaf took an early 10-3 lead in the first 3:23 of the game to force a Gustie timeout and never trailed throughout the contest. The Oles ranged from a seven- to 15-point lead for the remainder of the first half and took a 37-28 advantage into the locker room at half.
A pair of three-pointers by Logan Rezac (Jr., Andover) and Kaleb Feahn (Jr., Waseca), and a jumper from Marten Morem (So., Caledonia) brought the scoring difference to five at 54-49 with 11:17 left in the game, but the Oles answered with 12-1 run to create separation and secure the series sweep.
The Gusties shot 44.4 percent from the floor and made 11-of-28 threes. The Oles shot 51.6 percent in the game, including 61.3 percent in the second half. St. Olaf also won the rebound battle 36-26.
Rezac led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Rezac also posted a team-high six rebounds and four assists. Jake Guse (So., Waseca) had 10 points, four rebounds, and three blocks. Morem and Peter Lundquist (Jr., Rochester) also had 10 points.
Gustavus has a week off and hosts Bethel at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
