Gonsorowski, Guse Selected December Student-Athletes of the Month

Women’s and men’s basketball student-athletes Ava Gonsorowski (Jr., Esko) and Jake Guse (So., Waseca) have been named Gustavus Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month for December, which is voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department and presented by Thrivent Financial.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – Women’s and men’s basketball student-athletes Ava Gonsorowski (Jr., Esko) and Jake Guse (So., Waseca) have been named Gustavus Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month for December, which is voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department and presented by Thrivent Financial.

Women’s Basketball

Hometown: Esko, Minn.

Major: Biology

Gonsorowski was a integral part in a perfect 5-0 month of December for the Gustavus women’s basketball team. Gonsorowski started the month with a career high 23 points in a Dec. 4 win over Hamline. The Esko native then went on to post double digits in three of the final four games of the month, including 23 points for a second time in the team’s win over Concordia Moorhead on Dec. 14. The junior was also strong on the boards throughout the month, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game, including a career high nine versus UW-River Falls on Dec. 30. Gonsorowski also dished out 3.2 assists per contest and shot 49.0 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Men’s Basketball

Hometown: Waseca, Minn.

Major: Management

Guse was a model of consistency for the Gustavus men’s basketball team throughout the month of December. In six games, Guse made his presence known in the post with 18 blocks, including two games with five blocks apiece. His first of two five-block performances marked the first time a Gustie swatted away five shots in a game since Feb. 2, 2011. He also hauled in 34 rebounds for an average of 5.7 per game and averaged 8.5 points per game. Guse made 19-of-28 free throws and shot 16-for-36 from the floor. He also distributed 11 assists and had three steals.
