SAINT PETER, Minn. – After taking Thanksgiving weekend off, the No. 4 Gustavus women’s hockey team is back in action this weekend with a home-home series against Saint Mary’s. Friday’s game in Winona, Minn. begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s rematch in Saint Peter starts at 2 p.m. The Gusties enter the series 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC, while the Cardinals are 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enjoyed last weekend off after previously sweeping Augsburg on Nov. 22-23. The Gusties are strong on defense and special teams, allowing a MIAC-low 0.57 goals per game and have not conceded a power play goal in 14 penalty kills. The goaltending trio of Katie McCoy, Francesca Gerardi, and Emilia Helms-Leslie has allowed just four goals in seven games with a MIAC-best .965 save percentage. On offense, the Gusties average 2.86 goals and 32.3 shots per game. They’ve converted 5-of-22 power plays. Clara Billings leads the team with five goals and six points. Kristina Press and Molly McHugh also have six points apiece with Press contributing four goals and two assists, and McHugh leading the team with six assists.
Scouting the Cardinals: Saint Mary’s also took last weekend off after splitting a series with St. Catherine on Nov. 22-23. The Cardinals’ strength is on the power play as they have gone 5-29 on the skater-advantage and are third in the conference with a 17.2 percent conversion rate. They average 2.00 goals and allow 2.86 goals per game. Amber Miller and Courtney Moser lead the offense with four points apiece. Both have one goal and three assists. Ary Ziakas and Jordan Keeley have split time in net. Ziakas has a 2.80 goals against average, .904 save percentage, and 0-4 record, while Keeley owns a 2.35 goals against average, .919 save percentage, and a 2-1 record.
