SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team will travel to St. Paul Wednesday to take on Hamline in a 7 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC while the Pipers are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Series: Wednesday’s contest marks the 76th all-time meeting between the Gusties and Pipers with Gustavus holding a 65-10 edge. Gustavus has won the previous six contests, most recently taking down Hamline 56-38 last season in St. Paul on Jan. 31.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest following its first loss of the season when it dropped a 41-37 game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday. Through five contest the Gusties average 74.6 points per game which ranks second in the MIAC, while allwoing 48.0 which is first. The Gusties shoot it solid from the floor at 44.9 percent, but shoot just 30.8 percent from beyond the arc. Caitlin Rorman (Fy., Blue Earth) leads the team averaging 16.0 points per contest on 61.5 percent shooting to go along with 8.6 rebounds, while Ava Gonsorowski (Jr., Esko) scores 11.8 points, dishes out 3.4 assists, and has a team-high 16 steals.
Scouting the Pipers: Hamline comes into the contest most recently defeating Macalester 84-52 on Nov. 26. Through five games the Pipers average 72.6 points per game while allowing 59.0. Hamline has been one of the top teams in the MIAC in limiting turnovers, as they average the third fewest with 16.2. The Pipers led by Reilly Geistfeld who is second in the conference in scoring and rebounding with 18.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Lydia Lecher has also been solid, averaging 10.6 points while shooting 59.0 percent from the field.
