Women’s Basketball Heads to Martin Luther Tuesday

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team will travel to Martin Luther in New Ulm, Minn. on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 1-0 while the Knights are 0-4.

The Series: Tonight’s contest marks the 17th all-time meeting between the Gusties and Knights with Gustavus leading the series 13-3. The Gusties have won the last 12 matchups, with Martin Luther’s most recent win coming in the 1980-81 season.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest after defeating Luther in its season opener 84-53 Saturday. The Gusties used an all-around effort with 11 different players recording a field goal, as they shot 47.8 percent (32-of-67) in the contest. Caitlin Rorman (Fy., Blue Earth) led the charge with 15 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in her collegiate debut, while Anna Sanders (Fy., Vadnais Heights) added 10 points in her first game for the Black and Gold. The team’s 47.1 percent (8-for-17) mark from behind the arc was the highest since last year on Nov. 24 when they shot 63.6 (7-of-11) at Luther.

Scouting the Knights: Martin Luther comes into the contest most recently following an 88-71 loss to UW-River Fall Saturday. Through four contests the Knights average 50.8 points per game, while allowing 77.3. The Knights are led by Emily Witkowski, who averages 13.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.3 steals. Ally Platzer has also been solid, contributing 9.5 points while shooting 8-of-10 from behind the arc.
