SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team will travel to Moorhead Saturday to take on Concordia in a 3:30 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the matchup 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the MIAC while the Cobbers are 8-5-2 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The Series: Saturday’s contest will mark the 33rd all-time meeting between the two programs with Gustavus holding a 26-4-2 edge. The two team’s met in Moorhead last season with the Gusties taking a 1-0 victory on Sept. 15. Gustavus has won the last eight contests between the two teams, outscoring the Cobbers 19-2 in the process.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest most recently falling to Wartburg 2-1 Sunday. Cole Schwartz leads the conference and is tied for third in the nation with 39 total points on 17 goals and five assists. Raphael Cattelin (10g, 12a) and Matt Gibbons (6g, 11a) also find themselves near the top of the conference leaderboard for points as they’re in third and sixth with 32 and 23 points, respectively. Wesley Sanders has been strong in net thus far for the Gusties, making 48 saves while allowing 13 goals for a save percentage of .787.
Scouting the Cobbers: Concordia has also had the week off and is most recently coming off a 2-1 loss to Saint Mary’s Saturday. Through 15 matches the Cobbers are led by Sam Gess, who has tallied 14 goals and five assists and sits in second in the MIAC in points with 33. Nate Weaver has been the other top threat for Concordia, notching 24 points on nine goals and six assists for the fifth most points in the conference. Noah Sahr and Keith Sullivan have split time in net this season, combining for 49 saves and 20 goals allowed for a save percentage of .710.
