GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gustavus assistant cross country/track & field coach Becki Staley recently added another award to a long list of accolades. Last Friday, Staley was inducted into the University of Florida’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Each year, the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame inducts a new class of individuals who have brought recognition and prominence to the University Athletic Association through their athletic accomplishments and many years of continued service.
In the 90’s Staley was one of the most prominent female distance runners in the United States. She was a 20-time state champion in track and cross country at Dickinson High School (N.D.). After high school, Staley went on to run cross country and track and field collegiately at both Alabama and Florida where she was a 13 time All-American and two-time national champion. After college Staley was an Olympic Trials qualifier and she also ran professionally for Nike and Reebok.
