SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team will head to Hamline Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC while the the Pipers are 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 67th all-time meeting between the two teams with Gustavus currently leading the series 54-10-2. The Gusties won last season’s contest on Sept. 12, 3-0.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is most recently coming off a five-set win over St. Catherine Wednesday. Through 17 matches, Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) has totaled 197 kills to lead the team, averaging 3.18 per set, which is tied for fifth best in the conference. Kaylyn Johnston (Fy., Urbana, Ill.) leads the team with 375 set assists, while Hailey Embacher (Jr., Mankato) has 286 digs in the back row. Kaikea Welsh (Jr., Kansas City, Mo.) has been playing well for the Gusties, notching 14 kills and no errors in the team’s three MIAC contests for an attack percentage of .483.
Scouting the Pipers: Hamline is most recently coming off a 3-1 win over Concordia on Wednesday. The win over the Cobbers was the Pipers first since 1992. Through 16 matches, Hamline is led by Madison Hurrle who has 185 kills and an attack percentage of .322. Megan Rubbelke is the teams setter with 577 assists, while the Pipers have five players with 100+ digs with Maggie Gavic leading the way with 264.
