Women’s Soccer Returns to MIAC Play Saturday at St. Kate’s

The Series: Saturday’s game marks the 21st meeting between Gustavus and St. Kate’s with the Gusties leading the all-time series 10-7-3. Last season the Wildcats won the matchup 2-1 on Oct. 20 in St. Paul. St. Kate’s scored both its goals in the first 17 minutes followed by a Gustie goal in the 22nd minute off the foot of Abby Mullenbach, but that would be all the scoring.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is coming off a 2-1 victory over Northwestern-St. Paul on Monday. Katie Ashpole leads the offense with three goals and an assist for seven points. Abby Mullenbach has five points on two goals and an assist, and Rachel Rehnelt has a goal and an assist. Ashley Becker has started all seven games in goal with a 2.21 goals aginst average and .694 save percentage. Her 35 saves are tied for second most in the MIAC.

Scouting the Wildcats: St. Kate’s on Sunday topped Luther 5-2 in non-conference play, claiming its third win in the past four games. Through eight games, Lauren Witte leads the offense with 15 points on seven goals and an assist. Sofia Campbell has eight points on three goals and two assists. Amanda Elton leads the team and MIAC with five assists. Tayler Koop has started seven games in net with a 1.53 goals against average and a .783 save percentage.
