Men’s Soccer to Host UW-Superior Wednesday

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team is set to host UW-Superior on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup. The Gusties enter the contest 6-1 while the Yellowjackets are 4-1-2.

The Series: Wednesday’s contest marks the third all-time meeting between the two teams with the Gusties holding a 2-0 advantage. The two teams last met on Sept. 1, 2017 in Superior, Wis. with the Gusties taking a 1-0 victory. Arthur Parens scored the teams only goal with an assist going to  Matt Gibbons (Jr., Minneapolis).

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enters the contest following a 2-0 win over Saint Mary’s Saturday. Through seven contests, Cole Schwartz (So., Jakarta, Indonesia) leads the team and conference with 24 points (10g, 4a). Raphael Cattelin (Fy., Edina) (5g, 9a) and Gibbons (5g, 8a) are second and third in the conference respectively with 19 and 18 points. Wesley Sanders (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa) has started all seven games in net, totaling 21 saves and allowing six goals for a save percentage of .778.

Scouting the Yellowjackets: UW-Superior comes into the game most recently following a 1-1 2OT tie with Concordia Sunday. Through seven contests, Blake Perry and Eric Watson lead the charge with four goals apiece with Perry garnering a team high 10 points. The Yellowjacket goalkeepers have played well, with Dalton VonKaenel starting five games, allowing five goals, and making 21 saves, while Ulrik Lager has started two games, made eight saves and allowed two goals.
