SAUK CENTER, Minn. – One round into the Saint John’s Fall Invitational, the Gustavus men’s golf team is tied for the lead by shooting a 297. Host Saint John’s is even with the Gusties at 297, while St. Thomas is one stroke behind.
Ben Hauge (Sr., Ramsey) and Max Ullan (Jr., Blaine) both carded 73 to lead the Gusties and are tied for fourth. Jacob Pedersen (So., Minnetonka) is two strokes back at 75 and is tied for 16th, and Khrystjan Petersen (Fy., Faribault) is tied for 22nd with a 76.
“Today we talked about the great field of teams we would be playing with and that it was our turn to do something special with committed golf and sticking with their game plan,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “Good shots create good body language and steady mental play, but also steady mental play produces good shots. Tomorrow we just need to finish a tournament, something that we have not done in a while. Again, I think if we stay committed to what our game is and follow our game plan things will take care of itself. We had a group of good teams in our foursomes today and we will be grouped with them tomorrow because of our ending scores. Very proud of the boys.”
Saint Peter native Carter Doose of St. Cloud State leads the field 120 golfers with a one-under 71.
The SJU Fall Invite concludes Sunday.
