SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team is set for its first home match of the season Tuesday when they host the University of Minnesota-Morris at 7 p.m. The Gusties enter the match 6-6 while Morris is 4-7.
Last Time Out: This past weekend the Gusties competed at the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament in Eau-Claire, Wis. where they went 2-2. Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) had a solid all-around weekend, compiling 40 kills and 35 digs. Rhyan Herrmann (Fy., Brownton) had a good weekend as well, with 25 kills and an attack percentage of .214. Kaylyn Johnston (Fy., Urbana, Ill.) was the teams leading distributor during the weekend slate with 67 set assists.
Scouting the Gusties: Through 12 games this season Holtan leads the attack with 136 kills, while Sarah Elliott (Fy., Lombard, Ill.) has 94. Johnston has appeared in all 43 sets dishing out 273 assists, while Hailey Embacher (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) has corralled 189 digs. As a team the Black and Gold are hitting .173, while opponents are hitting at a clip of .166. In its six victories Gustavus is hitting .218, while in the losses the Gusties are hitting .130. The Black and Gold also average 1.98 service aces per set while allowing just 1.16.
Scouting the Cougars: Minnesota-Morris enters the contest most recently coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Bethel Tournament. Through 11 games this season, the Cougars are led by Morgan Miller and Brenna Tinjum who have 121 and 113 kills, respectively. Morris has hit at a clip of .175 as a team this season while opponents are hitting .204. A point of weakness for the Cougars this season has been the serve, where they have just 52 aces compared to 89 errors.
