WAVERLY, Iowa – The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in 10th place out of 17 teams after Saturday’s round of the Wartburg Fall Invitational. The Gusties carded a plus-27 315 and are 18 strokes behind the leader St. Catherine. Carleton is in second at 304, while St. Thomas and Illinois Wesleyan are tied for third at 305.

“The women really came out to play focused golf today,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “It was a big improvement from last week when we let what was going inside our minds get to the outside affecting our shots. Watching them on the course today, their body language did not give us any indication of how they were playing. Our ball striking off the tee, approach shots, and short shots around the green were good but our putting was not good enough to really score well. Shooting around 315 is exciting and there are a good number in front of us very close that we hope to pass tomorrow.”

Emily Kratz (So., Edina, Minn.) led the Gusties with a four-over 76 and is tied for 20th. Erin Erickson (So., Onalaska, Wis.) posted a five-over 77 and is tied for 26th. Sydney Regalado (So., Rosemount, Minn.) is tied for 34th with a 78, while Laurel Ward (Bozeman, Mt.), Hannah Hubbart (Fy., Hastings, Minn.), and Kristin Martens (Fy., Sartell, Minn.) all shot an 84.

Claudia Kim of St. Thomas is in first place after carding a 69.

The two-round invite conclude tomorrow.
