BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Gustavus women’s soccer team faced a tough regional opponent in Loras on Sunday and fell by a score of 3-1. The Gusties took a 1-0 lead early in the game but the Duhawks countered with three unanswered goals for the win. Gustavus is now 0-2 overall while Loras is 2-0.

Abby Mullenbach (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) scored the first goal of the season for the Gusties in the 13th minute, assisted by Katie Ashpole (Jr., Chaska, Minn.), but the Duhawks knotted the game at 1-1 with four minutes remaining in the half. Loras controlled much of the offensive play in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the visitors 21-9.

Loras scored what proved to be the game-winner six minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal. The Duhawks then added an insurance goal nearly four minutes later with another unassisted score.

Loras ended the contest with a 34-13 shot advantage. Gustie keeper Ashley Becker (Sr., Farmington, Minn.) made 11 saves to surpass 300-save mark in her career. Becker now has 301 career saves and is eight shy of breaking Tara Joosten’s program record of 308 saves set in 1997.
