GENEVA, Ohio – Gustavus thrower Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) took eighth place in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, earning All-America status. Hensch’s second attempt landed at 160-09 (49.00m), which was his best mark of the event. Hensch had the best throw out of 10 competitors in the first flight and was able to advance to the finals as his mark beat three competitors in the second flight. He was unable to further his distance with three more attempts in the finals.

The North Branch native claims the sixth discus All-America honor in program history and first since Andy Klaers took fifth in 2007.

Cameron Yon of PSU-Harrisburg won the national championship with a throw of 169-06 (51.66m).

Hensch continues competition at the NCAA Championships tomorrow, taking part in the shot put. He is seeded seventh with a mark of 16.99m and will throw in the second heat, starting at 10:30 a.m.
