Track & Field Receives All-Region Honors, Three Qualify for NCAA Meet

All-Region honors for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season were announced Sunday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the regular season and four Gustavus student-athletes were recognized.

NEW ORLEANS – All-Region honors for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season were announced Sunday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the regular season and four Gustavus student-athletes were recognized.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-three ranked relay teams.

Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) earned All-Region in all four throwing events. In the Central Region, Hensch ranks first in the javelin, second in both the discus and hammer, and third in the shot put. Taylor Rooney (So., Andover, Minn.) earned accolades in the 110 hurdles, holding the top time in the region and the nation.

Hensch has qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships in the disc, shot, and hammer. His national ranks are seventh in both the shot (16.99m) and hammer (61.13m), and 16th in the disc (50.65m). Rooney will join Hensch at the national meet, running in the 110 hurdles. He is seeded No. 1 with a time of 14.09.

Katie Keelin (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Annalee Olson-Sola (Fy., Northfield, Minn.) represent the Gustie women on the All-Region Team in the hammer and javelin, respectively. Keelin ranks fourth in the hammer and Olson-Sola is tied for fifth in the javelin.

Keelin will compete at the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw. She is seeded No. 13 with a mark of 52.91m.

The NCAA Championships will be held May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
