SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus baseball team plays host to Northwestern-St. Paul for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Gusties enter the game 9-5 overall while the Eagles are 10-6.
THE SERIES
Today’s games mark the 13th and 14th meetings between Gustavus and Northwestern on the diamond with the Gusties owning a 9-3 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams last met March 22, 2017 in St. Paul with the Gusties sweeping the doubleheader 6-4 and 14-10.
SCOUTING THE GUSTIES
Gustavus is coming off a series split against Macalester on Sunday, winning game one 5-3 before a 6-5 loss in the night cap. After 14 games this season, Cole Pengilly (So., Le Sueur, Minn.) leads the offense with a .452 average (19-42). Among regular starters, Matt Berkner (Sr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) is next with a .302 average (13-43) and has batted in 11 runs. Sam Archer (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) leads the team with 12 RBI and 23 total bases. Archer is slated to start game one on the mound today. He owns a 12.96 ERA in 8.1 innings and three appearances. Charlie Hutchinson (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) will start game two. He holds a 3.72 ERA in 9.2 innings and three appearances. Damon Rademacher (So., Princeton, Minn.) is the leading reliever with a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERA, and four saves in 12.1 innings.

Northwestern is coming off a 4-1 win over Hamline on Monday and has won six of its last eight games. Aaron Krahn leads regular starters with a .382 batting average (21-55) including 10 runs, five doubles, three home runs, and 14 RBI. Carlton Lindow has a team-high 16 RBI along with a .373 average (19-51). Philip Wall is the ace of the pitching staff with a 0.64 ERA and 3-0 record with 22 strikeouts in 28 innings. Dylan Ramberg is the leading reliever with a 4.66 ERA in four appearances and 9.2 innings.
