BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Amanda Malo (Sr., Greenwood, Minn.) was named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) West Region Gymnast of the Year, which was announced Wednesday morning.
Malo capped her career last Saturday at the NCGA Championship with All-American performances in the all-around and on the bars. She totaled a 36.900 for seventh place in the all-around and recorded a career-high 9.575 on bars for sixth place. Malo is a three-time All-American after earning the distinction last season in the all-around.
All six Gustavus seniors – Sam Ardy (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Victoria Aycock (Buffalo, Minn.), Jamie Erdely (Phoenix, Ariz.), Jessica Gerczynski (Kiowa, Colo.), Malo, Katy Trunk (North Branch, Minn.), and Veronica Vasina (Arvada, Colo.) – also received NCGA All-America in Academics honors, which recognizes seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and appears on the team’s NCGA squad list for the current year. Each nominee must qualify as a senior student academically and be in her last year of athletic eligibility.
