Women’s Hockey Prepares for Weekend Series with St. Kate’s Posted on February 1st, 2019 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team will take on St. Catherine this weekend in MIAC play with tonight’s contest being played at Don Roberts Ice Rink at 7 p.m. and tomorrow’s contest at Drake Arena in St. Paul at 5 p.m. The Gusties enter the series 10-5-4 overall and 6-3-3 in MIAC play while the Wildcats enter 5-12-2 overall and 2-8-2 in league play.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series

Tonight’s contest marks the 45th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Gusties holding a 37-4-3 edge. Last season when the teams met on Feb. 2-3, the Gusties came out with a pair of 3-0 victories.

Scouting the Gusties

Gustavus enters the contest most recently following a 1-1 tie to Saint Mary’s on Saturday after they had defeated the Cardinals 6-0 on Friday. In their past six contests the Gusties have taken two victories, one loss and tied three times, outscoring their opponents 15-8 in the process. Allie Stanger, Amelia Vosen, and Lilia Scheid are the teams three leading point-getters this season notching 16, 13, and 12 respectively. In last weekend’s series versus SMU, the trio combined for a total of 10 points to help lead the Black and Gold. Special teams for Gustavus also had a good weekend as they got three power play goals on Friday night and were not penalized in either games so they had to to kill off no opponent power plays. Amanda DiNella has started 18 games in net for the Black and Gold amassing a record of 9-5-4 with a save percentage of .931.

Scouting the Wildcats

In its most recent contest on Saturday, St. Kate’s defeated Saint Ben’s 6-2. They were led in the contest by Laken Muller who recorded the first three goals of the contest for a hat trick. Muller is currently tied for second on the team in points with 11 behind Brede Postier who has 13. Tori Thompson and Lexi Muller also both have 11 points for the Wildcats. St. Kate’s has had three different players start at least five games in net with Elizabeth Kubicek starting the most with nine. Kubicek has made 189 saves while allowing 19 goals for a save percentage of .909.
